Iran Continues to Exceed JCPOA Limits

INU - The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or 2015 Iran nuclear as it is more commonly known, has limits in place for the amount of enriched uranium that Iran is allowed to stockpile. Iran warned that it would start to exceed this limit because of the United States’ withdrawal from the agreement.

Iran Nuclear Chief Confirms Iran Breached Nuclear Deal

INU - The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) chief Ali Akbar Salehi revealed on Sunday that since signing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or 2015 nuclear deal as it is known, Iran has enriched 24 tons of uranium.

IAEA Meeting on Iran’s Breaches

On Wednesday, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-member Board of Governors met in Vienna to discuss prospective responses to the recent and forthcoming violations of the Iran nuclear deal. At the beginning of July, Iranian officials announced that they had officially surpassed the limits imposed on stockpiles of nuclear material. Days later, they also reported having begun enrichment of uranium to levels higher than the 3.67 percent fissile purity that was identified as the maximum allowed under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The IAEA confirmed both of these breaches, after having previously issued 15 separate reports indicating that the Islamic Republic had been complying with its primary obligations under the deal since it was implemented at the beginning of 2016.

Last year, U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He explained that the nuclear deal does nothing to curb the nuclear threat – it simply just delays it. The U.S. president also explained that there are a whole series of issues that the nuclear does not address, including Iran’s spread of terror and chaos across the region, its support of terrorist proxy groups and militias, its involvement in regional conflicts and the mistreatment of its own people.

Iran Breaches Nuclear Deal

INU- Iran breached the 2015 nuclear deal for the second time in days on Monday by enriching uranium to 4.5%, as confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is enough to help power Iran’s Bushehr power plant.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, a representative of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, admitted that this is an attempt to put pressure on the nuclear deal signatories, especially the EU, to help Iran evade US sanctions.
