Major Demonstrations in Support of Iranian Mujahedin-E Khalq (MEK)

Major Demonstrations in Support of MEK

By INU Staff

INU - The Iranian Resistance group known as the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK) has been boosted over the past month by a series of protests being held in Europe and in the United States. Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance around the world have gathered in a number of cities to voice their demands with regards to the Iranian regime and the actions governments should be taking faced with its belligerence, provocations and threats.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the main opposition to the Iranian regime, speaking about the latest major demonstration in London, indicated that the people want the mullahs in Iran to be issued broad sanctions. In a statement, the NCRI said that the Iranian Resistance has been demonised by the clerical regime “through ‘mullah-friendly reporters’ in various countries especially in the UK in publications such as The Guardian, by spreading fake news”. It highlighted that publications are doing this, even though the regime is the biggest source of terrorism and warmongering in the world.

In an address to the people who gathered in support of the Resistance in London, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, said that she urges everyone to call on the British government to “support human rights, namely the suppressed human rights of the people of Iran”.

In reference to the appalling human right conditions in Iran and the deplorable conditions in prisons that political prisoners are held in, Mrs. Rajavi called on the British government to “take action to send an international fact-finding mission to Iran to visit the regime’s prisons and the political prisoners particularly, the women”.

British MP Dr. Matthew Offord addressed the rally too and made reference to the grand gathering in Ashraf 3 in Albania that took place last month. He described the event as an opportunity not only to meet the people of Ashraf, but also as an opportunity to discuss with them their hopes for a future Iran. He expressed solidarity with the Resistance movement led by Mrs. Rajavi and said that he supports her vision of a future peaceful Iran.

A number of other prominent British, Irish and European political figures spoke at the event, voicing their support for the people of Iran and the Resistance movement. They included MP Roger Godsiff MP; former MP Paulo Casaca; Deputy Leader of the Irish Senate Senator Catherine Noone, former MEP Struan Stevenson; former MP Brian Binley; former President of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Roger Lyons; former MEP Jim Higgins; Senator Gerry Horkan of Ireland; and members of the Law Society of England and Wales.

The speakers expressed their support for the people of Iran who are fed up with the increasing levels of poverty. They are calling for the regime to be held accountable for its corruption and mismanagement of the country’s resources.

Unrest is widespread and the people have made it clear to the regime that they will not be intimidated into silence. There are Resistance Units across the country organising protests that show no sign of easing up.
